Reason for the Shortage

  • Claris had recalled all lots of their ciprofloxacin premixed bags.  More information can be found online.
  • Pfizer discontinued ciprofloxacin injection in 2010.
  • Teva discontinued all ciprofloxacin injection in September, 2011.
  • Bedford discontinued ciprofloxacin injection in May, 2011 to concentrate on the manufacturing of other products.
  • Bayer took over Cipro IV from Merck in 2011.
  • Sagent could not provide a reason for the shortage.

Estimated Resupply Dates

  • Hospira has ciprofloxacin 10 mg/mL 20 mL and 40 mL vials on intermittent back order. The company is shipping product as it becomes available.
  • Sagent has suspended the manufacturing of ciprofloxacin 2 mg/mL 100 mL and 200 mL premixed bags and cannot estimate a release date.
