[13 May 2013]

Products Affected - Description

Typhim Vi Injection, Sanofi Pasteur
25 mcg/0.5 mL, 0.5 mL prefilled syringe (NDC 49281-0790-51)

Reason for the Shortage

  • Sanofi Pasteur voluntarily recalled 5 lots of Typhim Vi prefilled syringes and 1 lot of multidose vials in September 2012 due to a concern that these lots may contain lower antigen content.
  • The live, oral typhoid vaccine (Vivotif capsule) is not affected by this shortage. According to CDC, the live, oral typhoid vaccine can be used as an alternative to Typhim Vi injectable vaccine in patients 6 years and older who do not have contraindications to a live vaccine.
