Reason for the Shortage

  • Hospira has lidocaine presentations on shortage due to manufacturing delays.
  • APP has Xylocaine and lidocaine presentations on shortage due to increased demand for the product.
  • Amphastar has lidocaine 2% emergency syringes on shortage due to increase demand for the product.
  • BBraun had lidocaine and dextrose premixed bags on shortage due to increased demand for the product.
  • Baxter discontinued two lidocaine and dextrose premixed bag presentations in March, 2012.

  • APP has Xylocaine-MPF 1% 5 mL ampules on back order and the company cannot estimate a release date.
  • Hospira has lidocaine 1% 5 mL Ansyr cardiac syringes on back order and the company estimates a release date of early-June 2013.

Lidocaine 1.5%

  • Hospira has lidocaine 1.5% 20 mL preservative-free ampules in sterile packs on back order and the company estimates a release date of early-June 2013.

Lidocaine 2%

  • Hospira has lidocaine 5 mL Ansyr emergency syringes on back order and the company estimates a release date of early-June, 2013. 
  • Amphastar has lidocaine 2% emergency syringes on intermittent back order and the company is releasing product as it becomes available on a regular basis.
  • APP has lidocaine 2% 5 mL SD preservative-free vials on back order with an estimated release date in early-June, 2013.
