The Clinical Skills Competition (CSC) is an interactive, team-based analysis of clinical scenarios for hospital/health-system pharmacists to help patients make the best use of their medications. Local competitions are held each fall on college campuses around the nation. The national competition takes place at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting in December.
Congratulations to the 2009 Clinical Skills Competition Winners!

2009 Clinical Skills Competition Coordinator Handbook
This handbook contains a timeline, important guidelines, and instructions for conducting your preliminary-round (school-level) competition. It also contains useful information for participants. ASHP will be offering a web-based training session to coordinators in August to help prepare the schools for holding their 2010 local events. The date and time for the training session will be announced this summer.
**Please check back this summer for the 2010 Clinical Skills Competition Coordinator Handbook**
New & Notable to the CSC Handbook:
We are continually making improvements to the Clinical Skills Competition and highlighted below are a couple of changes for this year.
- New naming structure for the school-level (preliminary round) and national-level (semi-final and final rounds) competitions.
- New eligibility requirement for student competitors to advance to the national-level semi-final and final rounds. Only ASHP student members enrolled in ACPE-accredited pharmacy programs are eligible to advance to the national level competition. Schools must confirm membership status of the winning team before sending this information to ASHP.
- One winning team of two (2) students from each ACPE-accredited pharmacy program (including “candidate” status) are invited to advance to the national-level competition. Schools with more than one campus should collaborate to hold a joint competition and determine the winning team to represent the entire school.
- CSC promotional materials available in downloadable PDF's
- Electronic report Forms A & B
2009 Clinical Skills Competition Brochure and Poster
For your convenience ASHP has designed materials you can use to promote the Clinical Skills Competition on your campus. ASHP will no longer provide printed promotional materials.
- 2009 CSC Brochure [PDF]
Information Brochure: E-mail this PDF file to your fellow students, post it on your SSHP website, or print and distribute copies at your next SSHP meeting. This brochure is a great way to spread the word about your upcoming competition!
- 2009 CSC Poster [PDF]
Customizable Poster: This PDF file has dynamic fields so you can type in the specifics of your competition, print it, and post it around campus.
