MSHP supports expansion of residency programs
The Mississippi Society of Health System Pharmacists (MSHP) is actively taking a lead in addressing the lack of accredited pharmacy programs in the state. MSHP President Jillian Foster, one of the MSHP’s delegates to the 2007 House of Delegates meeting in San Francisco, strongly supports the ASHP resolution promoting residency requirements for pharmacists in direct patient care by the year 2020 and knows that growth of accredited residency programs in underrepresented states is a key to its successful implementation. Foster also noted the concern that many pharmacists are leaving Mississippi for their residencies and never returning. MSHP is working with ASHP, the Ole Miss College of Pharmacy, and other key pharmacy leaders in the state to develop a CE event in the fall on how to create new accredited pharmacy residencies.
