TSHP Develops Webinars for Members
With about 100 registered sites, TSHP provided 1 hour of continuing pharmacy education to approximately 400 pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in Fall 2007 for its first-ever webinar. The audio conference, using the internet for visual support, gave participants an up-to-the-minute review of the new Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) regulations governing sterile compounding in health-system pharmacies. The program featured the TSBP Assistant Director of Compliance who reviewed the pertinent changes in the rules and answered questions dealing with specific applications to practice. The webinar is being evaluated to determine if it should be presented again as a webinar, presented as part of the TSHP Annual Seminar, or made available as a viewable file on the TSHP website.
Paul Davis, Executive Director of TSHP, noted, "This was one of our most successful and best received member programs in a long time." Davis believed that the key to Webinars is to use them for timely topics that have an immediate impact such as new regulations or totally new drug entities or disease therapy break throughs would be the type of information best disseminated by this means.
TSHP used a basic 'per site' registration rate that covered the costs of providing the telecommunications and administration. The charge for individuals was an additional fee per person if they wished to receive CE credit: $5 for members and $10 for non-members. However, the TSHP staff will be re-evaluated the provision of CE credit.
