The Department of Labor is accepting applications through October 5, 2009 for $220 million in competitive grants to prepare workers for careers in health care (Pharmacy Technicians are specifically listed) and other high growth areas. The report notes that “health care continues to offer workers opportunities to enter career-track jobs, earn good wages and make positive impact on the communities in which they work.” The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 is authorizing the competitive grants and $25 million of the total funds will be reserved for projects serving communities impacted by automotive- related restructuring ( areas impacted are listed in the Federal Register.
