2011 Oncology Pharmacy Professional Development Program

The American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) are pleased to announce the 2011 Oncology Pharmacy Professional Development Program.

This program has been approved by the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties for recertification credit for board-certified oncology pharmacists.

Professional Development Program

There are three components of the Professional Development Program.

1. Oncology Pharmacy Preparatory Review Course

The Oncology Pharmacy Preparatory Review Course is offered annually. This course is designed to help Oncology Pharmacy practitioners prepare for the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties (BPS) Oncology Pharmacy Specialty Certification Examination.

• Offered live in San Antonio, Texas, April 28 – 30, 2011
• Offered as a CD-ROM product beginning 7/1/11
• Offered on-line beginning 7/1/11

The CD-ROM and on-line course feature the same lectures, slides, and handouts presented by clinical and educational experts at the popular live course, the flexible format lets you complete the entire course in different formats: online or, if you prefer, a CD-ROM with a companion course handbook.

2. Oncology Pharmacy Home Study Syllabus

The BCOP Home Study Syllabus consists of a collection of articles from the primary literature that focus on advances across the four domains of oncology specialty practice. BCOPs who read each article in the Home Study Syllabus and successfully complete the web-based examination on the content of the articles will earn 15.0 contact hours (1.5 CEUs) of recertification and ACPE credit.

3. Oncology Pharmacy Specialty Sessions

The Oncology Pharmacy Specialty Sessions are updated annually and are presented at the Annual Meeting of the Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA), and repeated at the Annual Meeting of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), and at the Midyear Clinical Meeting of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). BCOPs who wish to earn recertification credit for the Oncology Pharmacy Specialty Sessions must register and attend one of these meetings and attend the specialty sessions in full at the meeting in order to purchase access to the Web-based post test. Upon successful completion of the post test, BCOPs will earn at least 5.0 hours of recertification credit. Partial credit is not available. The self-assessment examination must be submitted by December 31, 2011.

Program Fees

The Oncology Pharmacy Professional Development Program materials are only available from ACCP. Please visit the ACCP website after February 1, 2011 for details on the live conference in San Antonio, program fees, how to place an order, and how to obtain continuing education (CE) credits.
ASHP members may purchase course products at the discounted member rates, and participants who attended the live course in San Antonio, Texas can purchase the online version of the review course at a special reduced fee.

Continuing Education (CE) Credit

The Oncology Pharmacy Preparatory Review Course offers 22.5 contact hours (2.25 CEUs). The American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as providers of continuing pharmacy education. To receive credit, participants must achieve the passing score of 70% on the test to earn CE credit.
