The focus of the 42nd Midyear Clinical Meeting was to provide information and instruction on a variety of topics to enable pharmacy practitioners to advance the quality of patient care.
The keynote speaker for the 42nd Midyear Clinical Meeting was Dr. Maya Angelou, a historian, author, actress, playwright, civil-rights activist, producer and director. During her speech, which nearly 8,000 people attended, she recited and dedicated one of her very own works to ASHP, a poem entitled A Brave and Startling Truth.
The "Spotlight on Science"keynote speaker for the 42nd Midyear Clinical Meeting was Robert Cook-Deegan, M.D., director of the Center for Genome Ethics, Law, and Policy at Duke’s Institute for Genome Sciences and Policy. Dr. Cook-Deegan spoke to Midyear attendees on the policy implications of genomics research, the ethical and legal issues raised by its application, and the potential role pharmacists have in assuring the ethical application of pharmacogenomics in the healthcare setting.
