Reasons for selecting this career path:
As you know, there are many career paths that one can take when entering the profession of pharmacy. Throughout pharmacy school and internship years, there were many areas that were of interest to me. For me there were two reasons that I choose the inpatient setting and why I knew it was right for me. First off, I knew that the inpatient setting was right for me, because of the deep passion and care that I have for my patients. I wanted to be a patient advocate and be the voice of my patient when he/she was in there deepest time of distress. Secondly, the collaboration that I saw among pharmacists and physicians to improve patient outcomes and to the involvement of pharmacy in teaching patients, are areas which I wanted to be involved in. I wanted to be on the forefront of change and help make the greatest impact for my patients and there drug regimen. These are major reasons for why I choose a career on the inpatient side of pharmacy.
Interest in the NPF Executive Committee:
My interest grew in the NPF Executive Committee when I was at Midyear and I saw the impact that the NPFEC had on the future of our profession. I felt that by being involved at the national level I would be able to make a greater impact in profession. The ability to be involved in one of the largest organizations in the pharmacy profession, has afforded me the opportunity to bring items forward that impact my fellow new practitioners.
Professional Interests:
As I continue on, in the profession of pharmacy, I see myself wanting to be more involved in the education and teaching of our pharmacy students and residents. I think it is very important to teach and give back to the students and residents, as they are the future of our profession.
