Chair (2011-2012)

Jennifer Edwards Schultz, Pharm.D., FASHP

Jennifer M. Edwards, Pharm.D., is currently a Clinical Pharmacist at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital and Clinical Instructor for the University of Montana.  Edwards received her Pharm.D. from Creighton University and completed a pharmacy practice residency.  She has worked in a variety of hospital practice sites including managed care, a tertiary care medical center, and currently a small community hospital.  She has practiced both as a clinical pharmacist and in management, serving as Assistant Director of Pharmacy and Residency Director at Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver, WA.

Edwards has been an active member of ASHP currently serving as Director-at-Large for the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners, House of Delegates representative for Washington State and Montana, Chair of the Council on Educational Affairs, Chair of the Task Force for Pharmacy’s Changing Demographics, and Foundation's Literature Awards Selection Panel reviewer.  She also served on the Board of Directors for the WSPA.

Brian D. Benson, Pharm.D.,R.Ph.

Brian D. BensonBrian D. Benson, Pharm.D. is employed with Iowa Health Systems—Lutheran Campus Pharmacy Department as Pharmacy Manager; he practices in a retail setting with Medicap Pharmacy in Des Moines. He received his Pharm.D. degree from the University of Kansas and his B.S. degree from Drake University, where he currently serves as adjunct professor. Benson also serves as pharmacy representative for one of five Disaster Medical Assistance Teams for the state of Iowa. Benson has been active in local, state, and national pharmacy organizations. He has served as President and is currently the Treasurer for Central Iowa Pharmacists Association. He also served on the Professional Affairs Committee, Executive Committee, and chaired the Acute Care Practice-Interest-Forum (PIF) with the Iowa Pharmacy Association. He is currently the Chair of the Programming Committee for the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners.

Chair-Elect (2011-12)

Lynn E. Eschenbacher, PharmD, MBA

Lynn E. Eschenbacher is currently the Assistant Director of Clinical Services and PGY‐1 Residency Director at WakeMed Health & Hospitals in Raleigh, North Carolina. She obtained her PharmD at University of Texas at Austin and then completed a pharmacy practice residency at Parkland Health & Hospitals in Dallas, Texas. Lynn has worked at Duke University Hospital as a clinical pharmacist, clinical coordinator and medication safety officer.

Additionally, she completed her MBA at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. Lynn was recently selected for the Circle of Excellence award at WakeMed for Market Development and Quality Outcomes. She is active at a state level as an elected executive committee member and an appointed education committee member and nationally as an ASHP House of Delegates representative, the Chair of the ASHP Section Advisory Group for Medication Safety and a member of the Clinical Leadership ASHP Section Advisory Group.

Director-at-Large (2011-2013)

Joanne G. Kowiatek, R.Ph., M.P.M., FASHP

Joanne G. Kowiatek, R.Ph., M.P.M., FASHP is Pharmacy Manager, Medication Patient Safety, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy.  She received a B.S. in pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh and earned a Masters of Public Management from Carnegie Mellon University School of Public Policy and Management. 

Kowiatek has authored numerous journal articles and book chapters contributing to medication safety literature.  She was recognized as an individual recipient of the ISMP Cheers Award in 2005.  She is an inaugural participant of the ISMP’s Practitioner in Residence Program and member of the advisory board for the Nurse Advise-ERR newsletter.  Kowiatek is an active member of ASHP and was on the ASHP Foundation's Award for Excellence in Medication-Use Safety selection panel.  She is chair of the ASHP Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners, Section Advisory Group on Medication Safety.

Director-at-Large (2010-2012)

Noelle R.M. Chapman, Pharm.D., BCPS

Noelle R.M. Chapman, is currently an Interim Pharmacy Manager at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. She received her Pharm.D. from the University of Wisconsin and completed a residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Since completing her residency, Chapman has worked as a staff pharmacist, clinical pharmacist, and pharmacy coordinator prior to her current position. Her duties are varied and have ranged from medicine team leader to central pharmacy distribution supervisor to residency coordinator.

Chapman is an active member of ASHP, ICHP, and ACCP; serves on the Northwestern P&T committee; and is adjunct faculty at several schools of pharmacy. She has participated in a number of studies and quality improvement projects, which have lead to increased pharmacy clinical services at NMH.

Direct at Large-Elect (2011-12)

Emily Alexander, Pharm.D., BCPS

Emily Alexander is the CEO and Director of Envision Telepharmacy LLC. She received her B.S. degree in pharmacy from the University of Colorado, and her Pharm.D. degree from Idaho State University. Her practice experience includes both large urban and smaller rural settings. From Envision’s Texas office, Emily provides leadership and oversight for all services and operations, in addition to developing processes and systems using telepharmacy technology.

Emily has successfully created, implemented and gained regulatory approval for a pharmacy practice model utilizing a system and method for pharmacists to electronically supervise pharmacy technicians. She actively participates in ASHP’s Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners, Section Advisory Group on Small and Rural Hospitals (since 2009) and the ASHP Council on Public Policy (2010,2011). Emily has participated in ASHP program development and served as Program Chair for ASHP educational sessions. She speaks regionally, nationally and internationally on topics involving telepharmacy.

ASHP Staff

Anthea V. Francis, RPh
Director, Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners

Anthea V. FrancisAnthea V. Francis, RPh  currently serves as the Director, Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners for the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) located in Bethesda, Maryland. The mission of ASHP is to advance and support the professional practice of pharmacists in hospitals and health systems and serve as their collective voice on issues related to medication use and public health.  Anthea’s role as Section Director of Inpatient Care Practitioners is to actively engage members in the development of educational programming, authoring of publications, advocating of sound policies and creation of innovative resources that are relevant to the frontline pharmacist specifically, and consistent with the overall vision of the organization. 

Prior to coming to ASHP, Anthea practiced as a Clinical Pharmacist at the Johns Hopkins Hospital Pediatric Pharmacy in Baltimore, Maryland.  During her nineteen year tenure at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Anthea was involved in precepting pharmacy students, developing a point of care pharmacist practice for the Kennedy Krieger Institute and writing, implementing and assuring Kennedy Krieger’s successful compliance with and verbal commendation of the The Joint Commission’s National Patient Safety Goal regarding medication reconciliation.

Anthea received Bachelor degrees in Zoology and Pharmacy in 1985 and 1988, respectively.  Both degrees were granted from Howard University in Washington, DC.  Upon completion of pharmacy school, Anthea pursued a general ASHP accredited residency from Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC.  This one year postgraduate training provided concentrated learning in practice areas such as Neonatology, Pharmacy Nutrition, Infectious Disease and Pharmacy Management.

Upper Marlboro, Maryland is home for Anthea and her husband of sixteen years, Maxwell, along with their three beautiful daughters: Noelle, Symonne and Gabrielle.

In her leisure time, Anthea enjoys reading, cooking, playing the piano, traveling and chatting with friends.
