Kevin Marvin, R.Ph., M.S., FASHP, is a national leader in pharmacy informatics. He is the Past Chair of the ASHP Pharmacy Practice Section Advisory Group on CPOE and Informatics. Marvin was also involved in the transition of this group into the new Section of Pharmacy Informatics and Technology, where he has served multiple roles.
Marvin is a member of the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Patient Safety Steering Committee and ePrescribing Task Force. He is also a member of the JCAHO Healthcare Information Technology Advisory Panel.
Marvin contributed a chapter for a book on safe use of technology, titled Medication Safety: A Guide for Healthcare Facilities, which was published by ASHP. He also wrote a chapter for a book on ePrescribing for The Informatics Primer, another ASHP publication.
Marvin has been involved in pharmacy information systems for 25 years. He has experience as a retail pharmacist and as a Pharmacy Information Systems Coordinator in several hospitals. His health-system experience includes University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics (9 years), Health Alliance of Cincinnati (4 years), and Fletcher Allen Healthcare, Burlington, Vermont (5 years). Marvin currently is an independent consultant and recently completed a project to install the Eclipsys medication management system at the NIH Clinical Center, Bethesda, Maryland.
Marvin also has experience in the computer software vender environment as a Development Manager for CyCare systems (now McKesson). He also held the positions of Pharmacy Product Director for Continental Healthcare (now Mediware) and MedIntel (now Misys).
Marvin is a pharmacist and has a M.S. degree in Computer Science, both from the University of Wisconsin. His expertise is in the design, development and implementation of automation and information system tools to support safety, efficiency and profitability in the medication-use process.
