Reason for the Shortage
- Sandoz states the product has been temporarily unavailable since 2008 due to a management decision.
- Teva and Pliva state the shortage is due to supply and demand.
- Pfizer has discontinued their Zmax individual adult and pediatric formulations and replaced these with a combined adult and pediatric formulation.
Estimated Resupply Dates
- Sandoz has all presentations of azithromycin suspension on back order and the company cannot estimate a release date.
- Greenstone has azithromycin suspension available in 100 mg/5 mL 15 mL bottles (NDC 59762-3110-01), and 200 mg/5 mL 15 mL bottles (NDC 59762-3120-01), 22.5 mL bottles (NDC 59762-3130-01), and 30 mL bottles (NDC 59762-3140-01).
- Teva (formerly Pliva) has available azithromycin suspension 100 mg/5 mL 15 mL bottles (NDC 50111-0793-20) and 200 mg/mL 15 mL bottles (NDC 50111-0791-20). The other presentations are on back order and the company estimates a release date of early- to mid-February, 2010

- Teva has available azithromycin suspension 100 mg/5 mL 15 mL bottles (NDC 00093-7148-23), and 200 mg/5 mL 15 mL bottles (NDC 00093-7149-23), 22.5 mL bottles (NDC 00093-7149-94), and 30 mL bottles (NDC 00093-7149-31).
- Pfizer has available Zithromax 100 mg/5 mL 15 mL bottles (NDC 00069-3110-19), 200 mg/5 mL suspension in 15 mL bottles (NDC 00069-3120-19), 22.5 mL bottles (NDC 00069-3130-19), 30 mL bottles (NDC 00069-3140-19), and Zmax suspension 2 gram/60 mL, 60 mL bottles (NDC 00069-4170-34).
