Amprenavir 150 mg capsules, GlaxoSmithKline
Amprenavir 15 mg/mL oral solution, GlaxoSmithKline
Reason for the Shortage
Amprenavir (Agenerase) 50 mg capsules and 15 mg/mL oral solution will be discontinued by the end of October, 20071; the 150 mg capsules were discontinued in 2004.2 GlaxoSmithKline discontinued the product due to low use and also because amprenavir is no longer part of a preferred or alternative regimen for treating HIV.1-3
Estimated Resupply Dates
Amprenavir is discontinued.1
Implications for Patient Care
Treatment guidelines for HIV infection are available from the Department of Health and Human Services.3 Refer to these guidelines for specific recommendations. Fosamprenavir may be an alternative in some patients.1,3
