Chargemaster Maintenance
Health-systems use a structured method to ensure that medications are properly charged. This "charge master" may consist of individual entries for each drug or a set of formulas in a pharmacy computer system. Medication charges are generally based on medication cost. Charges for high cost medications should be regularly reviewed and updated as prices change. In addition, many expensive new medications are not covered by long term purchase contracts, therefore costs and charges in the charge master should be reviewed and updated monthly.
