AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP)
The ADAP program was developed to provide HIV-related medications to individuals without insurance or third party payer benefits, and who meet the financial eligibility required by the State Department of Health.

Coordinated Care Program (Alternative Funding Program)
Many hospitals have a program established to provide funding to patients who are in need of short-term post-hospital care services, and does not have any other financial resources. The alternative funding program is used to facilitate discharge from the hospital for patients who cannot afford their medications.
Typical qualifications:
- Care can be provided outside of hospital
- Patient is medically stable
- All other financial resources have been exhausted
- Cost of staying in the hospital is much higher than cost of care provided outside of hospital
The Lovenox® patient assistance program is a program to provide uninsured and underinsured individuals access to Lovenox®. Patients must meet eligibility criteria set forth by Aventis, the manufacturer of Lovenox®
Typical qualifications:
- The patient may not have insurance, Medicaid, or be receiving any other state or federal benefits that would otherwise pay for his/her medication.
The ProCrit® Line is a program sponsored by OrthoBiotech and this program provides ProCrit® to uninsured and underinsured patients.
Typical qualifications:
- A nurse will initiate the process for patients. She/he will complete all the paperwork and fax the information to OrthoBiotech
- The company then sends the nurse a card that has an ID number for the particular patient
- The nurse will give the card to the patient and send her/him to the pharmacy along with a written prescription for ProCrit®
- The pharmacy will adjudicate the prescription
The Ryan White Grant is a program that helps fund non-HIV prescriptions for uninsured and underinsured AIDS patients. Ryan White can either pay for the full price of the prescription if the patient does not have any prescription coverage, or pay the co-payment. Ryan White will only pay for non-HIV medications. The social worker should be contacted and will be aware of the patient’s coverage and can determine the cost at the time the prescriptions are filled by the pharmacy.
Ryan White Emerging Care Grant was established to help AIDS patients paying for their HIV and other medications. The Ryan White Emerging Care Grant is a community service program grant to pay the co-pays only. They may pay co-pays for indigents or for insurance patients. Their funding is minimal- it would be rare for the Ryan White Emerging Care Grant to fund 100% of the patient’s prescription charges.
Typical qualifications:
- A clinician or social worker must approve a patient. Usually, the social worker will send a letter with the patient.
The Safety Net® Program is a program supported by Amgen, manufacturer of Neupogen® (filgrastim) to provide free filgrastim to uninsured and underinsured patients.
Typical qualifications:
- The pharmacist, social worker, or other health care provider must enroll patient. Patient must sign page 2 of Form B. Pharmacist, social worker, or healthcare provider must complete all financial information questions with the patient. Patient cannot participate in the program if she/he has insurance, Medicaid, or Medicare.
