CMS Pilot Project: Pay for Performance in Acute Myocardial Infarction
An observational, patient-level analysis was conducted. The primary outcome measure was the differences between the ACC/AHA class I guidelines and in-hospital mortality for acute myocardial infarction patients between control hospitals and pay for performance hospitals. It was found that of the participating hospitals, the pay for performance program was not associated with a significant increase in quality, nor did it possess an adverse association. Additional studies are needed to determine the usefulness of pay for performance initiatives.
