Pay-for-Performance in Public and Private Payment Systems
More than half of health maintenance organizations are using pay-for-performance systems, and recent legislation requires the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to do the same for Medicare. As pay-for-performance systems have evolved, the numbers of health care providers, performance measures, and dollar amounts involved have increased.
