Program Description

This webinar will provide an overview of quality improvement tools that are used throughout the improvement process. Participants will learn about the tools that provide the information that is used in the quality improvement decision-making process. In addition to the fundamentals, you will learn practical tips from a quality improvement expert with experience using these tools.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this knowledge-based educational activity, participants should be able to

  • Describe basic performance improvement/LEAN tools used in process improvement.
  • Discuss the type of tool that is most useful in selected pharmacy applications.
  • Define a suggested method to follow when engaging front line staff in a LEAN project

Carol Birk, M.S., R.Ph., is Director of PharmaTAP, an engagement program of the Purdue University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Purdue Technical Assistance Program (TAP). Ms. Birk’s areas of focus include: clinical quality and patient safety program management and development, contemporary strategies to improve the safety and efficiency of healthcare processes, medication use accreditation and regulatory standards, leadership, mentoring and organizational design, and performance improvement and measurement. Ms. Birk has extensive experience in hospital pharmacy practice and healthcare performance improvement. Prior to joining Purdue University, she was employed as Performance Improvement Director at VHA Pharmacy and Director at Clarian Health System.
