In these informal sessions, network with your colleagues on various important topics and gain insight on tools, strategies, and challenges in your institution.

Clinical Specialists and Scientists: Residency Preceptor Skills Development
Sunday, 12:00pm – 1:30pm

This networking session will provide an opportunity for participants to discuss ideas on developing a residency preceptor skills program within your health system.  Members of the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists, ASHP Accreditation Services Division, and residency program surveyors will facilitate a dialogue among attendees on innovative activities that can be incorporated into an overall program.

Inpatient Care Practitioners: Medication Safety
Sunday, 12:00pm – 1:30pm

Members of the ASHP Section Advisory Group on Medication Safety will facilitate a dialogue on timely and relevant topics related to medication safety such as efforts focused on national patient safety goals, progress on medication reconciliation, Medication Safety Officers job description, and medication safety residencies.  The agenda is highly flexible and may change based upon audience interests.  Members interested in hearing more about these topics are invited to participate in discussions and to share ideas with their peers.

Pharmacy Practice Managers:  Managing No-Pay Conditions - One More Challenge in Challenging Times

This interactive networking session will focus on the state of affairs that have impacted the IPPS regulations as they relate to payment and quality standards.  Discussions will include the increasing number of no-pay conditions, opportunities members have realized in supporting the achievement of no-pay expectations, and the development of “take home points for success” for the top three issues identified by the attendees.  In addition, the session will also provide networking on how the economy has impacted health systems attempting to address these new standards.

  • Justifying pharmacy services with outcomes assessment
  • Impact of Part B provider status
  • Controlled substances in ambulatory care

Pharmacy Informatics and Technology: Update and Future Imperatives
Monday, 5:15pm – 6:15pm

This session is for pharmacists who are interested in informatics, computerized provider order entry (CPOE), clinical decision support, e-prescribing, barcode point-of-care, and other issues related to technology.  A progress report on the activities of the Section Advisory Groups and plans for the next year will be presented.   This will be followed by a facilitated discussion on the informatic imperatives for a new pharmacy practice model.   This networking session will also provide attendees an opportunity to discuss what they have learned in the “Informatics Series” during the course of the meeting.
