BETHESDA, MD 20 November 2009—Procter & Gamble yesterday announced the recall of Vicks Sinex 15 mL nasal spray because certain lots of the nonprescription product may be contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia.
The recall affects a single lot sold in the United States—lot 9239028831—and two lots sold in Germany or the United Kingdom.
The company stated that it detected B. cepacia in a batch of raw material used to prepare the three product lots.
B. cepacia can cause serious illness in people with lung disease or a compromised immune system. According to the company, no reports of illness have been attributed to the recalled lots.
U.S. purchasers of the recalled product, sold as Vicks Sinex Vapospray 12-Hour Decongestant Ultra Fine Mist, can obtain a replacement coupon or a refund by contacting the company at 877-876-7881.
