BETHESDA, MD 17 March 2010—Vials of clevidipine butyrate from lots that The Medicines Company had declared unaffected by its December 2009 recall are now being recalled.
The company today announced that it is expanding the earlier recall of Cleviprex to include lots 68-407-DJ, 68-408-DJ, 71-101-DJ, and 71-106-DJ.
Vials from these four lots were what the company said it was shipping in December to wholesalers for ultimate use in hospitals.
The reason for the recall remains the same: "potential presence of visible particulate matter which has been observed in some vials."
Hospitals should contact their wholesaler or distributor to arrange the return of any unused vials.
A call to the company confirmed that no more Cleviprex is available at this time.
Questions about the recall should be directed to the company at cleviprexrecall@themedco.com or 888-977-6326, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. EST Monday through Friday.
Hospira Inc. manufactures Cleviprex for The Medicines Company.
