ASHP Staff Meets with Joint Commission's New President
9/17/2008
ASHP underscored the important role that pharmacists play in improving medication safety and quality in its first meeting with The Joint Commission’s (TJC) new president, Mark R. Chassin, M.D., M.P.P., M.P.H.
ASHP Executive Vice President and CEO Henri R. Manasse, Jr., Ph.D., Sc.D., Chassin and other senior TJC leaders focused on ways the groups can help hospitals and health systems implement, measure, and sustain improvements in the medication-use process. The meeting continued ASHP’s longstanding, productive relationship with TJC to address and solve complex medication-related problems. An ASHP representative serves on every medication management-related committee within the commission. A top ASHP priority is to help members successfully lead their organizations to meet and exceed TJC standards and patient safety goals. Also attending the meeting were Kasey K. Thompson, Pharm.D., assistant director of the Office of Policy, Planning, and Communications; and Bona E. Benjamin, B.S.Pharm, director of medication-use quality improvement.
