Joint Commission Anticoagulation Guide Relies on ASHP Expertise
10/2/2008
ASHP’s advocacy efforts continue to show results. The latest evidence appears in The Joint Commission’s new Sentinel Event Alert on anticoagulation management.
ASHP reviewed an early draft of the alert and provided TJC with resources from studies published in the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy and recommended changes to information about specific drugs. The result--the final version includes almost every reference provided by ASHP.
The Society’s input also had an impact on TJC’s view of the pharmacist’s roles in anticoagulation services. The original text noted that pharmacists should be “involved” in anticoagulation services. The final version refers to “pharmacist-managed” services.
