ASHP Congratulates President-Elect Obama
11/5/2008
ASHP sent a congratulatory letter to President-elect Barack Obama this week applauding his historic victory and reaffirming the Society’s intent to work with the new administration on health care reform.
ASHP has developed a good working relationship with Mr. Obama’s health staff over the past several years, including productive visits during the 2007 and 2008 Legislative Day activities with the then senator’s legislative aides and Society President Kevin J. Colgan.
As President-elect Obama considers strategies for health care reform, the Society urges his incoming administration to recognize the valuable role pharmacists play in assuring the safe and effective use of medications, especially for vulnerable patient populations such as the elderly and those with chronic disease. ASHP has offered to serve as a health care resource for the new administration on issues relating to pharmacy practice within the hospital setting. The Obama campaign identified promotion of the team based approach to care as an essential component of health care reform.
