ASHP Recommendations Up for NQF Vote
12/19/2008
Members of the National Quality Forum are voting on updates to the National Voluntary Consensus Standards for Safe Practices for Better Healthcare, which includes a significant number of proposals recommended by ASHP.
The Society’s recommendations included the addition of a link to the My Medication List
TM
tool to the safe practice on medication reconciliation
; an expanded definition of formulary systems, and the increased use of pharmacy technicians.
The practices are used in clinical care settings to reduce errors and improve patient care.
ASHP believes these practices will have an effect on reducing the risk of harm to patients and enhancing the quality of healthcare by promoting harmonization of evidence-based standards with daily practices of patient care.
