ASHP to Senate Committee: Invest In Pharmacists' Education
3/16/2009
ASHP made the case for investing in education and training for pharmacists as part of health care reform efforts in a recent statement for the record submitted for a Senate Finance Committee hearing on workforce issues.
The Society urged the Finance committee to fund programs like post graduate year two specialized pharmacy residency and loan forgiveness programs that have been shown to reduce costs, improve care, and provide patients with greater access to care in rural and underserved areas. ASHP noted that several concepts being promoted to improve access and quality, and reduce costs such as the patient-centered medical home model, and health promotion and wellness programs would be improved through the involvement of pharmacists.
