ASHP Backs NQF Proposal for Combining Performance Measures
3/20/2009
A proposed method for evaluating the quality of health care will ensure that patients and payers are more informed when selecting health care providers, ASHP recently told the National Quality Forum (NQF).
The Society submitted comments on the NQF’s proposed “Composite Measure Evaluation Framework and National Voluntary Consensus Standards for Mortality and Safety: Composite Measures.” Composite measures group together several related indicators to assess the quality of care provided to a patient.
ASHP’s comments noted that composite measures should be based on interventions that are scientifically proven to improve clinical outcomes, and cautioned against the use of the measures until each has established evidenced-based precision and validity.
