Las Vegas Highlights Past & Present

Monday, December 3, 2007
12:30PM – 4:30PM

Your afternoon in Las Vegas will include a stop at the famous and historic Fremont Street. “Glitter Gulch”, as it came to be known, is where this early Frontier city’s “rough and tumble” Western persona first took root.  And as you travel on, your guide will remind you of some of the well-known celebrity couples that have “tied the knot” in Las Vegas’ ever popular Wedding Chapel Row.

As you continue down the Las Vegas Strip past the many extraordinary new hotels, your guide will offer background on Las Vegas’ colorful past.   The original sites of some of the city’s most famous landmarks will be pointed out such as the Dunes, the Stardust, and the original Sands Hotel where Frank Sinatra’s “Rat Pack” played and entertained.  You’ll hear about the part both gangsters and entertainers played who became legends here and whose notoriety helped create the aura of this exciting 24-hour city.  You’ll be fascinated with the transition to the present more corporate Las Vegas with its mega hotel empires and magnificent casinos with their charismatic hotel moguls.

The Bellagio Hotel remains one of the City’s most elegant and exclusive resorts.  You’ll be stopping at this exquisite hotel to visit The Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art.  The Gallery will be featuring an unusual collection of Picasso ceramic sculptures.  Your well-informed guide will point out other special architectural features of the hotel – including the Chihuly Glass, the Byzantine mosaic floors, and the domed conservatory, donned by then in its remarkable and festive holiday motif.

Hoover Dam, Lake Mead Cruise with Lunch, & Green Valley

Tuesday, December 4, 2007
9:00AM - 4:00PM

As you motor through the new residential and commercial developments of the Southeast Vegas Valley and historic Boulder City, your guide will narrate tales of the area - both old and new!  You will visit Hoover Dam, a magnificent monumental engineering feat constructed between 1921 and 1935 at a cost of over $175 million.  This engineering wonder not only provides most of the electricity for the Pacific Southwest, but it also forms Lake Mead, the largest manmade reservoir in the Western Hemisphere.  History comes to life when you tour the interior of this 72 story structure and see the inside workings and its many fascinating exhibits.  A special guided tour that explores the inside of the Dam has been arranged for the ASHP guest.

Next we are off to the Lake Mead Marina to board the Desert Princess paddle-wheel steam boat for a 90 minute fully narrated cruise on Lake Mead.  You will see the Hoover Dam from a whole new prospective.  A private dining room is reserved for you to enjoy a delightful lunch as you enjoy the magnificent scenery.

Next we will venture off the beaten path a bit to a lovely new suburban area of Las Vegas.  You’ll welcome the opportunity to walk and browse through the many up-scale and unique shops and boutiques at The District at The Green Valley Ranch.

Las Vegas Springs Preserve & Lunch

Wednesday, December 5, 2007
9:30AM – 2:30PM

The latest ‘must see’ in Las Vegas is the new 180-acre cultural and historical venue known as the Springs Preserve.  This interesting complex was built on the original site of the springs where water was first discovered in Las Vegas.  The venue offers a unique cultural experience for everyone - desert botanical gardens, historical museums, sustainable galleries, walking trails that meander through a scenic wetland habitat, and more!

Your specially arranged private tour will be conducted by one of the Preserve’s own staff of highly trained educators. It will begin with a short 10 minute film that will provide an historical backdrop for your day’s visit. You will learn how the Springs Preserve is an extraordinary example of sustainable living in practice.  The Preserve is likewise an invaluable resource for those interested in greening their lifestyle.  Our tour will highlight many of the sustainable technologies that make the Springs Preserve the largest Platinum LEED rated commercial building in the Southwest.

There will also be time available for you to explore and discover some of the many other interesting and vital exhibits, landscapes, gardens and trails. And you’ll definitely enjoy spending time in the Preserve’s unique gift shop.

The world famous chef, Wolfgang Puck, is the official onsite caterer for the Springs Preserve.  We will showcase the maestro’s culinary talents in an expressly designed, delectable three course luncheon menu.
