AJHP to Offer Exciting New Augmented Reality (AR) Technology

Will Allow Readers to Experience Journal Articles in a Whole New Way

6/19/2014

The American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy (AJHP) will offer readers Augmented Reality (AR) technology, which links the printed page with readers’ mobile devices, starting with its July 1, 2014, issue.

Readers will be able to download a free app called Layar to their smartphone or tablet and use it to scan printed pages that include the Layar logo. The app then displays the augmented content, allowing readers to share article abstracts on social media sites, send e-mails to article authors, and quickly access related materials that are not in the printed issue, such as author interviews on AJHP Voices and author-supplied data supplements or videos.

“This new technology ensures that AJHP will continue its longstanding tradition of being the most electronically enhanced journal in pharmacy,” said AJHP Editor in Chief C. Richard Talley, B.S.Pharm. “We believe our readers will find real value in this addition.”

AR also allows readers to view ahead-of-print articles, send e-mails to AJHP editors and contributing editors, and contact AJHP advertising sales representatives and ASHP customer service. Click here to view the video about AR.
