RESIDENCY LEARNING SYSTEM (RLS)
The PGY1 and PGY2 residency standards require that "...the resident's program be designed, conducted, and evaluated using a systems-based approach. Such an approach requires that there be a direct correlation among the expectations of resident performance, the type of instruction provided, and the evaluation of resident performance." The Residency Learning System (RLS) was created to help programs use a systematic approach to residency training.
The RLS consists of multiple tools to help programs design and deliver training. Tools are categorized by the steps of the RLS process (Steps 1-9), with additional tools after Step 9.
NINE STEPS OF THE RLS PROCESS
RLS Step 1 Tools (Program Purpose and Outcomes)
PGY1 Outcomes, Goals, and Objectives
Accreditation Standards for PGY2 Pharmacy Residencies
PGY2 Outcomes, Goals, and Objectives
RLS Step 2 Tools (Program Structure)
RLS Step 3 Tools (Assigning Goals and Objectives to Learning Experiences)
RLS Step 4 Tools (Learning Experience Descriptions and Activities)
RLS Step 5 Tools (Assessment)
Assessment Criteria
Formative (On-Going, Informal) Assessment Tools
Summative (Formal, Written) Evaluation Tools
Other Evaluation Tools
RLS Step 6 Tools (Customized Plans)
RLS Step 7 Tools (Precepting)
RLS Step 8 Tools (Monitoring Resident Progress)
RLS Step 9 Tools (Program Quality Improvement)
