Reason for the Shortage

  • Apotex has piperacillin/tazobactam on shortage due to regulatory delays.
  • AuroMedics and Sandoz could not provide a reason for the shortage.
  • Baxter has Zosyn frozen premixes on allocation due to increased demand.
  • Fresenius Kabi has piperacillin/tazobactam on shortage due to increased demand.
  • Sagent has piperacillin/tazobactam on shortage due to increased demand.
  • Pfizer has Zosyn on shortage due to manufacturing delays. Pfizer estimates there will be supply shortages through 2015.
  • WG Critical Care states the reason for the shortage is increased demand.

Estimated Resupply Dates

  • Apotex has piperacillin/tazobactam 4.5 gram vials on intermittent back order and the company is releasing product as it becomes available. Piperacillin/tazobactam 2.25 gram, 2.275 gram, and 40.5 gram bulk vials are on back order with an estimated release date of late-April to early-May 2015.
  • AuroMedics has piperacillin/tazobactam on intermittent back order and the company is releasing product as it becomes available. Check wholesalers for inventory.
  • Baxter has all Zosyn frozen premixes on allocation.
  • Fresenius has all piperacillin tazobactam on back order and the company estimates a release date of early- to mid-March 2015 for the 2.25 gram and 4.5 gram vials, mid-March 2015 for the 40.5 gram vials, and late-March 2015 for the 3.375 gram vials.
  • Hospira has all piperacillin/tazobactam presentations available in limited supply.
  • Pfizer has Zosyn 2.25 gram vials, 3.375 gram vials and 4.5 gram vials on back order and the company estimates a release date of early-June 2015. Zosyn 40.5 gram bulk vials are on back order and the company estimates a release date of early-March 2015.
  • Sagent has all piperacillin/tazobactam presentations on back order and the company estimates release dates of early-March 2015 for the 2.25 gram vials, April 2015 for the 3.375 gram vials, and May 2015 for the 4.5 gram vials.
  • Sandoz has all piperacillin/tazobactam presentations on back order and the company estimates a release date of early-April 2015.
  • WG Critical Care has piperacillin/tazobactam 2.25 gram, 3.375 gram, and 40.5 gram vials on back order and the company cannot estimate a release date. Piperacillin/tazobactam 4.5 gram vials are on back order and the company estimates a release date in April 2015.
