ASHP recognizes that new practitioners represent the leaders of the future in hospital and health system practice. During this early stage of their career, they desire tools and programs to assist them in their career development. The career management needs of new practitioners are unique compared to more seasoned practitioners as they are struggling to transition from the ideals put forth in didactic studies to the reality of application in pharmacy practice. They face a host of challenges, including
- keeping current with the top issues in practice,
- managing and supervising more seasoned practitioners,
- adapting to a multidisciplinary practice environment, and
- plotting a successful career path while continuing to develop professional skills.
ASHP and the New Practitioners Forum are committed to helping new practitioners gain new insight, learn new strategies, and network about these challenges that are unique to those new in the profession.
New practitioners need to be “at the table” for important discussions about clinical care, technology, medication safety, quality improvement, and more. For this, they need not only up-to-date clinical information, but also confidence, networking skills, and effective management of professional relationships so you’re not left out of the important conversations.
Why Great eXpecations?
Here is what past attendees have said:
- It gave me motivation and confidence to return to work with new purpose.
- Enthusiastic, inspiring.
- It was probably the best and most applicable conference that I have attended. I liked that there were separate tracks that allowed everyone to participate in talks based on their needs/interests.
- The networking opportunities were amazing. I had the opportunity to meet and talk to practitioners I would have never been able to otherwise. I learned how to get involved and advance my practice.
- Thanks for the great meeting. It was definitely worth attending and I will be here next year.
