The ASHP Pharmacy Student Forum has five advisory groups that provide advice and guidance to the Forum regarding the unique needs of student members and how these needs might be addressed by the provision of resources and programs by ASHP. Community and eCommunications
Community and eCommunications Advisory Group
Purview: The Community and eCommunications Advisory Group serves to advise ASHP regarding the development and support of an actively engaged and connected community of student members.
Charges:
- Review content on the student -relevant pages of the ASHP website, social media networks, and other electronic communications and provide recommendations for revisions and updates
- Monitor student-relevant chatter on social media networks (internal and external) and advise ASHP as appropriate on implications for the organization
- Explore advances in technology (communication and networking tools) that may impact student members and advise ASHP on the recommended course of action
- Explore opportunities to leverage electronic communications to reach students with ASHP messages when and where it is most appropriate and relevant
- Provide feedback upon request to the ASHP Digital Publications Committee regarding electronic products and services
Leadership Development
Leadership Development Advisory Group
Purview: The Leadership Development Advisory Group serves to advise ASHP regarding the growth and development of future health-system pharmacy leaders to cultivate a culture based on the philosophy that leadership is a professional obligation.
Charges:
- Collaborate with the ASHP Research and Education Foundation Center for Leadership Development to explore and implement novel resources for student leadership and professional development
- Collaborate with the Education and Programming Advisory group to incorporate student leadership programming in Forum events (i.e. meetings, webinars) as appropriate.
- Identify and recruit up-and-coming leaders who are strong candidates for ASHP leadership roles (Executive Committee, Advisory Groups, Councils, Commissions, etc) and the ASHP Student Leadership Award.
Policy and Legislative Advocacy
Policy and Legislative Advocacy Advisory Group
Purview: The Policy and Legislative Advocacy Advisory Group serves to advise ASHP regarding the growth and development of pharmacy students as effective advocates for the profession of health-system pharmacy.
Charges:
- Advise on the most effective methods to educate students about political issues regarding pharmacy and the health care system and current pharmacy legislation.
- Educate student members about the ASHP policy process and issues presented before the ASHP House of Delegates
- Explore innovative means to actively promote student involvement in policy and legislation, including guidance to Student Societies regarding grassroots efforts
- Provide guidance to the student delegate to the ASHP House of Delegates
Student Society Development
Student Society Development Advisory Group
Purview: The Student Society Development Advisory Group serves to advise ASHP regarding the facilitation of growth and development of Student Societies of Health-System Pharmacy (SSHP).
Charges:
- Provide support for the establishment of SSHPs on the campuses of new and existing colleges of pharmacy
- Evaluate and provide recommendations regarding tools and resources designed to support the growth and development of SSHPs
- Provide support for campus outreach efforts to aid individual SSHPs in the pursuit of official ASHP-SSHP Recognition.
- Explore opportunities to strengthen the triad relationship between ASHP, SSHPs and State Affiliate organizations
Education and Programming
Education and Programming Advisory Group
Purview: The Education and Programming Advisory Group serves to advise ASHP regarding the content, development and evaluation of student-relevant education, events and programs.
Charges:
- Provide student perspective regarding existing programming and education (including, but not limited to, student-relevant education, events, and programs related to the Summer Meeting, Midyear Clinical Meeting, Personnel Placement Service, Residency Showcase, and webinars)
- Advise on most effective platform(s) or venues for the delivery of education, programs, and events to students (i.e. live, web-based, state affiliate meetings)
- Aid in the exploration and development of novel student educational programming content and delivery methods
- Assist in the development of evaluation tools to gather student feedback on education and programming; assess results of evaluations and provide recommendation to ASHP
The Chair of the Pharmacy Student Forum will appoint ten students to each advisory group for a June - May term. Advisory groups communicate primarily via e-mail and conference call on a periodic basis. Attendance at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting is encouraged, but not required, as the advisory group members have the opportunity to meet face-to-face. Prior elected / appointed leadership is NOT required, however, appointments are competitive. View the roster of current Advisory Group members [PDF].
Eligibility requirements:
- ASHP student member in good standing
- Enrolled in ACPE- accredited pharmacy school (e.g., rising P-1 through P-4 years)
- Available to participate in all conference call meetings throughout the year
