How and why I became interested in being appointed to the Pharmacy Student Forum Executive Committee:
Since the start of pharmacy school, I have been actively involved with the University of Florida SSHP, as a member and in a variety of leadership roles.  In the summer of 2010 I had the unique opportunity to work as an intern at ASHP headquarters.  I also later served as a member of the PSF Education and Programming Advisory Group.  These experiences fostered my appreciation and admiration of ASHP’s role in the pharmacy profession.  The practitioners and ASHP members I have met along the way always left me inspired and motivated to do more. I became interested in serving as a PSF Executive Committee member so that I could continue to work with ASHP and its student membership.  I am confident in the fact that ASHP values student input and feedback, and I hope to serve as a liaison between this organization and its passionate student members.

Professional interests:
Medication Safety & CQI, Oncology, Ambulatory Care, Administration

How being a member of ASHP has assisted in my personal and professional development:
The most rewarding aspect of my ASHP membership and involvement has been getting to know pharmacy leaders from across the county. In getting acquainted with them, I am always impressed to learn how these individuals make an impact on patient care in their own unique ways.   Whether it’s a student performing preventative screenings in their local campus community, or a practitioner implementing hospital-wide medication safety measures, I have learned more about pharmacy through getting to know them than I have by doing anything else.  My interactions with such ASHP members reinforce the idea that there is much to look forward to after graduation.  Their camaraderie continually reinforces my passion for pharmacy.

Goals for the year as a PSFEC Member:

  1. To encourage students to serve as leaders in the pharmacy practice model change – Students should recognize and be moved to act upon their roles as agents of change in the pharmacy profession.
  2. To continue connecting the community of student members – Students should continue to use ASHP as a resource to get to know their colleagues.  The PSFEC should always facilitate and encourage inter-campus and inter-professional collaboration.
  3. To improve and make career resources and tools more accessible – Students should be able to make the most of ASHP’s resources in working toward their future career goals.
  4. To strengthen the triad relationship between ASHP, State Affiliates, and SSHPs – Every student should be able to participate in professional activities on the state and/or national level.
