School:
University of Iowa College of Pharmacy
Graduation Year: 2012
How and why I became interested in being appointed to the Pharmacy Student Forum Executive Committee:
I was introduced to the Pharmacy Student Forum as a first year pharmacy student when I was appointed to the Membership Advisory Group. I served on this group for two years and it was an amazing experience which taught me a lot about the pharmacy profession. I applied for a position on the Executive Committee because I wanted to get more involved with the Pharmacy Student Forum and pass along the passion I have for pharmacy. I feel being part of the Pharmacy Student Forum Executive Committee will give me the opportunity to make positive changes in pharmacy and help ASHP develop the next generation of health-system pharmacy leaders.
Professional interests:
Ambulatory care, geriatrics and association management.
How being a member of ASHP has assisted in my personal and professional development:
When I joined ASHP my first year of pharmacy school, little did I know all the benefits I would receive from my membership! ASHP has given me the opportunity to practice my networking skills. I have met many pharmacy students, residents, and pharmacists which have all been influential in my life. I have learned leadership skills this past year serving as President of our SSHP at the University of Iowa and being a member of the Pharmacy Student Forum Executive Committee. An ASHP leadership seminar presented at our SSHP taught me about the importance of mentorship and allowed me to obtain an amazing mentor. ASHP has also opened my eyes to the many different career opportunities available to me in health-system pharmacy through their residency database. Lastly, being a part of ASHP has shown me how voicing our opinions and becoming involved, even as a student, can make positive changes in our profession.
Goals for the year as a PSFEC Member:
- Increase awareness of the ASHP Policy Process among students and encourage them to become agents of change.
- Promote ASHP membership to students in their first and second year of pharmacy school. Also, encourage continued membership of new practitioners.
- Reach out to SSHP’s to encourage ASHP recognition and provide assistance to help them further develop their SSHP.
- Increase awareness of the Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative among pharmacy students and encourage them to become involved.
Fun fact:
I am a huge NHRA Drag Racing fan! I used to race in the Jr. Drag Racing League when I was younger and I try to make it to at least one national event each year!
