Student Leadership Award

The ASHP Student Leadership Award Program recognizes students with an interest in pharmacy practice in health-systems who have demonstrated leadership ability. This program recognizes and celebrates the contributions of students who represent the very best attributes and accomplishments of ASHP student members. ASHP offers up to twelve awards annually. Pharmacy students in the second through fourth professional years are eligible to apply. The award consists of:

  • An award plaque,
  • An ASHP drug information reference library, and
  • A $2500 cash award provided by the ASHP Research and Education Foundation through the Walter Jones Memorial Pharmacy Student Financial Aid Fund.

Application Instructions

Please follow the steps below to apply for the 2012-13 Student Leadership Award. To be accepted, all application materials (mailed and electronic) must be received by ASHP no later than 5:00 pm EST on January 30, 2013.

Step 1: Complete paper application form (coming soon)

Step 2: Submit all application materials (including paper application form signed by faculty member, Professional Activities Form, your CV and/or resume, essay, and 3 signed and sealed letters of recommendation). Make sure your application in typed, printed one-sided, and not stapled. Mail to:

2011-2012 Award Recipients

Class of 2012


Eunice K. RheeEunice K. Rhee
University of Southern California School of Pharmacy

Ms. Rhee has held progressive positions in health-systems pharmacy, including a Senior Lead Intern Pharmacist position at a major health system where she served as a coordinator overseeing the scheduling, training, and evaluation of 15 interns. She has been an active member and has served in leadership roles in multiple national and local organizations. Currently, she is serving as Vice President of her School of Pharmacy class.  She has been recognized for her academic and leadership achievements through numerous awards and scholarships.

 

Kenneth W. Worsham, IIKenneth W. Worsham, II
Hampton University School of Pharmacy

Mr. Worsham has served as the president of his student society of health-system pharmacy chapter and as a member of both the ASHP Pharmacy Student Forum Policy and Legislative Advocacy Advisory Group and the Community and eCommunications Advisory Group.  He led a successful T-shirt fundraiser for his SSHP chapter’s participation in the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk.  He also promoted health-system pharmacy by holding an informational session for high school students, a partnership that has since continued.  In addition, he is passionate about community service as a means of professional development.

 

Krystal CanallyKrystal Canally
The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy

Ms. Canally has demonstrated leadership both as a student and as a pharmacy intern.  As an intern, she developed a protocol for monthly auditing of emergency medication boxes.  As a student, she served as president for her student society of health-system pharmacy where she was able to increase funds for charity by creatively organizing a new fundraising opportunity for an existing annual event.  She has also served on the ASHP Pharmacy Student Forum Policy and Legislative Advocacy Advisory Group for the past two years.

 

Ryan C. ConstantinoRyan C. Costantino
Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences

Mr. Costantino has held many leadership roles and made exceptional contributions to various organizations. In one such role, he implemented, coordinated, and taught within a program which provides pre-pharmacy and professional pharmacy students with comprehensive technician training. He strives to increase student involvement and serves as a mentor and tutor to his peers. He has excelled academically over the years and has received numerous awards and scholarships in recognition of his achievements.

Calvin J. IceCalvin J. Ice
Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy

Mr. Ice has undertaken numerous leadership roles over the years. Each of these experiences fostered an expanded interest in pharmacy practice and propelled him to increase his involvement even more. Currently, he serves not only as the president of the ONU SSHP but also as a student board member of the Ohio Society of Health-System Pharmacists and active member of the ASHP Pharmacy Student Forum Leadership Development Advisory Group. Even with his full workload, he is constantly seeking out additional avenues of participation as well as opportunities to cultivate a similar desire in others.

 

Casey M. CombsCasey M. Combs
University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy

Ms. Combs has served in many leadership roles during her tenure at the University of Kentucky. In her most recent role as president of the SSHP, she led the effort to design and distribute medication safety cards as well as the educational outreach about the importance of drug safety that followed. She continues to be a voice for innovation and change in professional practice, proposing and implementing procedures to increase clinical exposure and maximize efficiency during internships. She has also received numerous awards recognizing her academic achievements.

 

Catherine K. FloroffCatherine K. Floroff
Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy

Ms. Floroff strives to increase opportunities for pharmacy students and address the many important issues they face. Last year, she cofounded the VCUSOP Student Pharmacist Policy and Advocacy Forum, a student group dedicated to discussing “hot topics” related to the pharmacy profession. In addition, her posts as a student board member for both local and state societies of health-system pharmacy allowed her to provide a student voice on a variety of matters. As the current president of the VCU SSHP, she continues to work on behalf of her fellow members by organizing programs and activities designed to benefit their individual growth and increase their impact as pharmacy professionals.

 

Melissa C. ErinMelissa C. Erin
University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences

Ms. Erin is devoted to the practice of pharmacy and the enrichment of the pharmacy student experience. In her current role as SSHP vice president, she works to increase and improve opportunities for student members to receive first-hand pharmacy knowledge. Building on the success of an established faculty shadowing program, she created and initiated the Residency Shadowing Program wherein student members work alongside PGY1 residents for a day. This program has received rave reviews from participants, proving her effectiveness in optimizing and advancing professional development opportunities for students.

 

Phuoc Anh (Anne) NguyenPhuoc Anh (Anne) Nguyen
University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy

Ms. Nguyen is an innovative thinker with a desire to advance pharmacy practice. Understanding the need for an interdisciplinary approach to patient care, she collaborated with a nursing student to coordinate an event promoting teamwork and communication. In addition, she has also worked in tandem with other pharmacists to provide free health screenings to underserved populations. Other achievements include serving on two Pharmacy Student Forum advisory groups, serving as the vice president of the Pharmacy Council in Austin, Texas, as well as serving as the public relations co-coordinator of the World Health Organization Student Board.

Brady T. McNultyBrady T. McNulty
Texas A&M University Health Science Center Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy

Mr. McNulty has taken on multiple leadership roles on both the local and national level.  Currently, he serves as the SSHP president elect, is a delegate-elect on the APhA Academy of Student Pharmacists, and has previously served as class representative. He works tirelessly to improve patient safety and increase opportunities for current and incoming pharmacy students.  His many accomplishments include cofounding the Medication Safety Initiative and creating dual-language information cards for common antibiotics.

 

Molly C. TrayahMolly C. Trayah
Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences

Ms. Trayah has played a pivotal role in the conceptualization and development of several innovative student initiatives at ACPHS Vermont Campus. In addition to serving as a founding member of the student society, she also organized groups of students to participate in targeted outreach in rural communities. Because of her leadership and guidance, countless Vermont residents benefitted from increased access to various health screenings and cancer prevention techniques as well as programs focused on teaching youth and adults about the misuse of prescription medications.

 

Tolulope E. AkinboTolulope E. Akinbo
Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine School of Pharmacy

Ms. Akinbo has held many leadership positions including campus representative of the Florida Public Health Association and secretary of their Student Section. She currently serves as the president of her SSHP, presiding over community outreach projects. Through this role, she motivated students to become more involved on World AIDS Day by providing a comprehensive series of events designed to educate and engage students on the epidemic. She is also actively involved in community service and presently serves as the philanthropy chair of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, Inc.
