ASHP Member Sections Election Results

ASHP members have selected the following persons to serve on the executive committees of the Society's Pharmacy Practice Sections.

The new officers are:

Section of Ambulatory Care Practitioners
Chair-elect: Melanie A. Dodd, Pharm.D., PhC, BCPS
Director-at-Large: Jennifer A. Buxton, Pharm.D., CPP

Melanie A. Dodd, Pharm.D., PhC, BCPS, is an associate professor in geriatrics at The University of New Mexico (UNM) College of Pharmacy in Albuquerque. She has served as chair of the Council on Public Policy and as a New Mexico delegate to the ASHP House of Delegates.

Jennifer A. Buxton, Pharm.D., CPP, is deputy director of pharmacy services at Cape Fear Clinic in Wilmington, N.C. She is a member of the Section’s educational steering committee, a delegate to the ASHP House of Delegates, and is a past president of the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists.

Section of Clinical Specialists & Scientists
Chair-elect: Christopher Betz, Pharm.D., BCPS, FASHP
Director-at-Large: Jason J. Schaefer, Pharm.D., MPH, BCPS, AAHIVP

Christopher Betz, Pharm.D., BCPS, FASHP, is associate professor at Sullivan University College of Pharmacy and an internal medicine clinical pharmacy specialist at Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville, Ky. He has served in the ASHP House of Delegates and is a past president of the Louisiana Society of Health-System Pharmacists. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Society Health-System Pharmacists.

Jason J. Schafer, Pharm.D., MPH, BCPS, AAHIVP, is a clinical specialist in infectious diseases and assistant professor of pharmacy practice at the Jefferson School of Pharmacy in Philadelphia. He has served as the Section’s infectious diseases network facilitator and as a member of its advisory group on clinical leadership.

Section of Inpatient Practitioners
Chair-elect: Daniel D. Degnan, Pharm.D., M.S.,CPHQ
Director-at-Large: Molly Leber, Pharm.D., BCPS

Daniel Degnan, Pharm.D., M.S., CPHQ, is senior project manager at the Purdue University College of Pharmacy’s Center for Medication Safety Advancement and is an assistant clinical professor of pharmacy practice at Purdue University. He is chair of the Section’s advisory group on medication safety.

Molly B. Leber, Pharm.D., BCPS, is the clinical pharmacy coordinator at Yale New Haven Hospital and the clinical coordinator of the Yale New Haven Health-System Formulary Integration Committee. She has served on the ASHP Council on Education and Workforce Development, as a member of the Section’s advisory group on medication safety, as a delegate to the ASHP House of Delegates, and as a Midyear Clinical Meeting program chair. She is a board member of the Connecticut Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

Section of Pharmacy Informatics & Technology
Chair-elect: Barbara Giacomelli, Pharm.D., M.B.A., FASHP
Director-at-Large: Joseph Lassiter, Pharm.D., M.S.,BCPS, CPHIMS

Barbara Giacomelli, Pharm.D., M.B.A., FASHP, is a managing consultant with McKesson Pharmacy Optimization and adjunct professor for the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Nursing. A fellow of ASHP, she is a past chair of the Section’s automation operation advisory group.

Joseph J. Lassiter, Pharm.D., M.S.,BCPS, CPHIMS, is the assistant IT director for medication-use systems and program director of the PGY2 pharmacy informatics residency at the University of Michigan Health System. He is chair of the Section’s advisory group on pharmacy informatics education.

Section of Pharmacy Practice Managers
Chair-elect: Thomas E. Kirschling, Pharm.D., M.S., MSL
Director-at-Large: Jennifer E. Tryon, Pharm.D., M.S.

Thomas E. Kirschling, Pharm.D., M.S., MSL, is director of acute care pharmacy at Denver Health. He currently serves on the Section's advisory group on quality and compliance and routinely serves as a Midyear Clinical Meeting program chair. He is a past chair of both the Section’s educational steering committee and the ASHP Council on Pharmacy Management.

Jennifer E. Tryon, Pharm.D., M.S., is the executive director of pharmacy at The University of Chicago Medicine. She has served as chair the Section’s advisory group on manager development and on the advisory groups on leadership development and the PPMI Initiative. She is a past chair of the ASHP Council on Pharmacy Management and past president of the Oregon Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

The one-year terms for the Section chairs and the two-year terms for the directors-at-large will begin in June 2014.
