Official Recognition by a Public Official

Tips for Having National Hospital & Health-System Pharmacy Week Officially Recognized by Your State or Community

Public Official

  1. Call the mayor or governor’s office to determine how proclamations are issued.
  2. Try to build a coalition of health-system pharmacy leaders in support of the proclamation. Encourage them to contact local and state officials about National Hospital & Health-System Pharmacy Week. Letters from pharmacists across the state will indicate broad support.
  3. Have materials ready, such as the sample proclamation. Personalize it with relevant facts about pharmacy in your local area.

Legislature & City Council

  1. A resolution may need to be sponsored by a member of the appropriate governmental body. Find someone who is supportive of pharmacy or who has voiced an interest in health care issues. A pharmacist-legislator is an excellent choice for a sponsor.
  2. Find out how you can help your sponsor ensure the success of the legislation.
  3. Elicit support from pharmacy leaders from the state to show broad interest in the resolution.

After the resolution is issued, send a thank you note to the public official or legislator to show your appreciation.
