ASHP Executive Residency in Association Leadership and Management

The ASHP Executive Residency in Association Leadership & Management was created in 1968 to train future association executives to work in and lead state and national associations. Since its creation, graduates of the ASHP Executive Residency have gone on to serve in leadership roles in associations, government, for-profit corporations, academia, philanthropy, pharmacy practice, and various other sectors.

The Executive Residency is a paid 12-month program housed at ASHP Headquarters in Bethesda, Md., that provides one resident each year with hands-on training in all facets of not-for-profit association leadership and management, with areas of focus including the following:

  • Executive Leadership and Governance
  • Advocacy
  • Membership Recruitment and Retention
  • Practice and Standards Development
  • Publishing
  • Marketing and Sales
  • Strategic Planning
  • Finance
  • Human Resources
  • Governance
  • Public Relations
  • Educational Program Development
  • Information Technology
  • Product and Program Development
  • Accreditation
  • Conference and Convention Management

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy
  • Eligible for licensure to practice pharmacy in a U.S. state or territory
  • Strong involvement as a volunteer leader
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, and emotional intelligence

Candidates who have completed an ASHP-accredited residency are also eligible to apply.

To apply for the ASHP Executive Residency in Association Leadership & Management, submit the following through the application portal by January 9, 2017:

  • Cover letter explaining your interest in the residency, future goals, and qualifications
  • College transcripts
  • Three letters of recommendation

Letters of recommendation are to be submitted by email to: executiveresidency@ashp.org

Applicants do not need to register through the ASHP Residency Matching Program to apply for the ASHP Executive Residency in Association Leadership & Management. Candidates do not need to apply using the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Services (PhORCAS).
