Residency Checklist

September

  • Submit the resident matching program application agreement form with the appropriate fee.
    Begin work on curriculum vitae (CV) and cover letters.

October

  • Review the ASHP Online Residency Directory which provides information on ASHP-accredited residencies. Click here for residency opportunitiesExternal Link.

  • Request additional information and applications from programs of interest.

  • Register to attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting (MCM); select programs to visit in the MCM Residency Showcase.
    Consider registering for the Personnel Placement Service (PPS) so that you can interview one-on-one with employers at the meeting www.careerpharm.comExternal Link.

  • Make necessary travel and housing arrangements.

November

  • Finalize CV.

December

  • Attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting.

  • Request letters of recommendation. Remember to enclose any forms required.

  • Complete all paperwork for applications, including ordering transcripts.

  • Schedule on-site interviews.

January

  • On-site interviews begin.

February

  • Complete interviews. Narrow residency choices to programs that best meet your professional/personal needs and goals.

March

  • Submit your Rank Order List by the date published by National Matching Services Inc., using the online system provided on the Match web site at www.natmatch.com/ashprmpExternal Link.

  • Receive “Match” outcome at 12 noon Eastern Daylight Savings Time on the published date.

  • Unmatched residency candidates resubmit application to programs with positions remaining.

July

  • Most residencies begin.
