ASHP is proud to highlight one of its newest state affiliate organizations, the Nevada Society of Health-System Pharmacists (NVSHP). As a newly formed health-system organization, NVSHP strives to assist the needs of Nevada’s health-system pharmacists and to promote ASHP. The state of Nevada has approximately 1,700 practicing pharmacists; about 450 pharmacists in Northern Nevada and about 1,200 in the Southern Nevada area. Prior to the recent establishment of NVSHP, Nevada’s pharmacists had no local health-system organization established to assist them in their professional and educational needs.
The Nevada Society of Health-System Pharmacists, through the assistance of the ASHP, was officially formed on October 21, 2006 at the NVSHP Strategic Planning Board Retreat. Since its establishment, NVSHP has initiated or completed the following:
- Incorporated with non-profit status in the state of Nevada
- Received IRS 501 c(6) tax exempt status
- Received ASHP state affiliate status
- Successfully recruited over 70 new members
- Conducted NVSHP board meetings monthly
- Signed formal unilateral state society agreement with Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
- Developed the NVSHP Logo (selected through pharmacy student competition at University of Southern NV)
- Conducted educational programming in Northern and Southern Nevada
- Established and published quarterly newsletters
- Established regular E-mail communications to NVSHP members
- Launched the NVSHP website (www.nvshp.org)
- Established NVSHP representation and disseminated information for state and national pharmacy-related legislative issues
- Expanded networking opportunities for members and pharmacy practitioners in Nevada
- Sponsored receptions for NV pharmacists at ASHP Midyear Clinical Meetings in 2006 and 2007
- Built relationships with Directors of Pharmacy in the state
- Held its first official election of board members
- Conducted the official election of ASHP delegates from Nevada
Through all of these accomplishments, NVSHP continues to strive for more members and more leadership to help achieve its strategic goals. NVSHP is planning its first annual meeting on October 18, 2008 in Las Vegas. Please refer to the NVSHP Website for more details: http://nvshp.com/index.html
