The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) is pleased to announce a new competition to promote pharmacy technician training and education. ASHP’s Pharmacy Technician Initiative Video Competition offers pharmacy technicians, pharmacy departments, state affiliates, pharmacy technician training programs, and pharmacy technician educators the opportunity to showcase the training, education, and overall value of a pharmacy technician in a creative competition.

All pharmacy technicians, pharmacy departments, state affiliates, technician training programs, pharmacy technician educators and others who are interested in participating in the competition are asked to submit a video up to 3 minutes in length, addressing one or more of the following topics:
- The Essential Role of the Pharmacy Technician; Why You Should Be a Pharmacy Technician
- Outlining Career Paths for Pharmacy Technicians
- Describing the Training of Pharmacy Technicians including ASHP-Accredited Training Programs and PTCB Certification
- Communicating the Value of ASHP-Accredited Training
- The Role of Pharmacy Technicians in the Future (i.e. Guiding Change as Part of the ASHP Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative)
ASHP’s Pharmacy Technician Initiative Video Competition allows pharmacy technicians the opportunity to gain recognition in the ASHP member community, and promote the vital role of pharmacy technicians within the pharmacy profession.
Prize
The selected winners will be announced in June 2010 and the three-minute videos will be posted on the ASHP Web site and promoted via numerous communication channels. The winner of each category will receive a complimentary registration to the ASHP 2010 Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition in Anaheim, CA.
Criteria
A panel of ASHP staff will be used to judge the video submissions. Judging criteria includes, but is not limited to:
- Topic Insight/Accuracy (40%): Did the video demonstrate an understanding of the topic matter? Was information conveyed accurate?
- Speaking Skills (30%): Was the participant(s) articulate? Appropriate language and tone used?
- Creativity (10%): Were there any unique attributes to the video?
- Overall Impact (20%): Was the video informative and entertaining? Was the lasting impression positive?
Rules
Pharmacy technicians, pharmacy departments, state affiliates, technician training programs, and pharmacy technician educators and anyone who is interested in promoting pharmacy technician education and training are eligible to participate.
- Videos are to be 2-3 minutes in duration. No videos exceeding three minutes will be considered.
- In order to be considered, each applicant must submit a video and completed application form.
- All submissions must be received by Midnight (EDT), May 31, 2010.
- All videos submitted become the property of ASHP.
- To limit the perception of a promotional video, pharmacy technician training programs and pharmacy departments, etc. should be acknowledged in the credits.
- All videos must be less than 60 megabytes in size and formatted as MPEG, MOV or AVI files.
