John A. Armitstead, M.S., R.Ph., FASHP

John A. Armitstead, M.S., R.Ph., FASHP, is System Director of Pharmacy Services at Lee Health in Fort Myers, Florida.

Mr. Armitstead is responsible for strategic planning, financial management, direction, and coordination of pharmacy care services in a five-hospital and county-wide ambulatory health system with a $150 million budget, including 330 pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. In his nine years at Lee Health, he expanded the pharmacy enterprise, adding more than 140 new pharmacy practice positions under approved, innovative business plans.

Mr. Armitstead also serves as a Residency Program Director for the PGY2 program in health services pharmacy administration and leadership at Lee Health. He has personally trained over 200 pharmacy residents and served as a preceptor for more than 100 Doctor of Pharmacy students.

Active in national and state pharmacy associations for more than three decades, Mr. Armitstead is a Past President of ASHP, the Ohio Society of Health-System Pharmacists (OSHP), and the Kentucky Society of Health-System Pharmacists (KSHP). He also served terms on the Board of Directors of ASHP, OSHP, and KSHP and was Chair of the House of Delegates of the Florida Society of Health-System Pharmacists. He is a frequent presenter at national and international meetings, with presentations on over 130 professional topics. He is an author of more than 50 publications, including two book chapters.

A Fellow of ASHP, Mr. Armitstead is also the recipient of the Ohio Northern University Distinguished Alumni Award (2016), the Clifton J. Latiolais Award (2005) and the Jack L. Beal Post-Baccalaureate Award (2015) from the Ohio State University, the University of Kentucky Preceptor of the Year (2001), and Lee Health’s Preceptor of the Year (2014) and Lee Health President’s Circle Awards (2016, 2018).

Mr. Armitstead received a Master's degree in Hospital and Clinical Pharmacy from Ohio State University and completed a pharmacy residency at Riverside Methodist Hospitals in Columbus, Ohio. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from Ohio Northern University, Ada, Ohio.
