A Voice of Health-System Pharmacists
With the assertiveness and diligence of hospital pharmacists to establish national recognition, the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists (ASHP) was formed on August 21, 1942. “We are standing on the beginning of a new era,” Harvey A. K. Whitney, the first chairman of ASHP, told his colleagues a year after ASHP’s conception. He continued, “Now is the time to decide on our objectives, to find our place in the larger organization of health services.” ASHP did just that.
