ANDREW MAYS, PharmD, BCNSP, CNSC, FASPEN ([email protected]) is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Nutrition Support at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he serves as leader of the institution’s Adult Nutrition Support Service. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy, where he assists with nutrition support education. Mays graduated from the University of Mississippi with a PharmD and then completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.
His service to ASHP began as a member followed by Chair of the New Practitioners Forum Membership and Outreach Advisory Group. Mays has also served as Nutrition Support Network Facilitator for the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists and as a member of the Council on Therapeutics. Mays has been a delegate for Mississippi to the ASHP House of Delegates since 2020 and currently is a member of the Clinical Specialists and Scientists Educational Steering Committee. Mays is also a Past-President of the Mississippi Society of Health-System Pharmacists and served as a reviewer and presenter for the ASHP-ASPEN Nutrition Support Certificate Program.
Healthcare is constantly evolving, and our profession continues to be challenged with new opportunities for change and growth. The Section is ready to equip the pharmacy workforce with resources to continue to advance everyday practice to meet the needs of every patient we encounter. Health and healthcare disparities continue to adversely affect our patients. To ensure there is appropriate healthcare for all of our patients, we must address this through advocacy, education, and teamwork. These disparities must be highlighted to federal and state policymakers, but we should also ensure that federal and state committees have a diverse group of members to adequately address every patient population.
The experiences I have had through serving ASHP and other national organizations have prepared me with the skills to successfully serve as the Director-at-Large for the Section. If elected, I would continue to push the envelope for the advancement of pharmacy practice and address health disparities to ensure access and care for those who have been impacted. It is a great honor to be nominated, and I am dedicated to working as a team to promote the advancement of the pharmacy practice model and ensuring that the role of the pharmacy technician expands as practice changes.
