CAROLINE M. SIERRA, PharmD, BCPPS ([email protected]) is an Associate Professor at Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy as well as a General Pediatric Pharmacist at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. Sierra earned her PharmD at the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy before completing her PGY1 Pharmacy and PGY2 Pediatric pharmacy residencies at Loma Linda University Health (LLUH). She teaches courses in pediatric pharmacotherapy and serves as the faculty advisor for the Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists chapter at Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy. She also serves as the Coordinator for LLUH’s PGY1 Pharmacy residency and the Residency Program Director for the PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy residency program and is a preceptor to students and residents at LLUH.
Sierra currently serves on ASHP’s Council on Education and Workforce Development and the Section Advisory Group on Pediatrics. She has previously served on the Council on Pharmacy Practice, the New Practitioner Forum Executive Committee, and the Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists Faculty Advisory Panel. She is also an active member and leader in her state and local affiliate chapters.
Encouraging innovation in both practice and management and cultivating big-picture thinking in our learners is essential to generating practitioners with the knowledge and creativity to lead. ASHP is uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between students and practicing pharmacists. As pharmacy education and training focuses on content that moves the needle in a pharmacist’s skills and knowledge, this Section can encourage development of connected objectives at every level of training and simplification of standards to better enable students from every institution and training program to achieve practice excellence.
My involvement in ASHP leadership has helped me understand the needs of institutions outside my own and allowed me to better serve my school, institution, and the organizations of which I am a part.
It is an honor to be nominated to serve as Director-at-Large of the Section. I look forward to the opportunity, if elected, to bring my experience as a faculty member, practicing inpatient pharmacist, and residency program director to help drive the work of the Section and ASHP as a whole.
