Chair Message July 2017

July 2017

Dear Colleagues,

It is a true pleasure and privilege to serve as the Chair of the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners (SICP) this year. After serving as a member and Chair of the SICP Educational Steering Committee (ESC), I was excited to take this step in becoming more involved in the Section, and I’m looking forward to interacting with all of you in the upcoming year.

I wanted to express my appreciation to Jennifer Robertson, who served as the Section Chair last year. She served as an outstanding mentor to me when I joined the SICP Executive Committee this past year, and she will continue to provide strong leadership in her role as Immediate Past Chair, along with Directors-at-Large Jacqueline Olin and Paul Milligan. Voting is currently ongoing for two additional Executive Committee members.

The year ahead will be exciting and productive for our Section. Kicking the year off at the ASHP Summer Meetings in Minneapolis in early June was enjoyable and invigorating, just like the gorgeous weather there! I had the opportunity to interact with many of you, through attendance at educational sessions, poster presentations, and networking opportunities. My favorite part of the meeting was the ConnectLIVE! Session held on Monday morning of the meeting. It was wonderful to participate in discussions about hot topics within our Section and to also have the opportunity to interact with members of other Sections. I served as a facilitator for my table, and it was exciting to hear the thoughts and perspectives of the folks at the table, ranging in experience from students to highly-seasoned pharmacists. Your involvement in ASHP activities makes them truly memorable!

During the Summer Meetings, the Executive Committee met and identified priorities and upcoming ideas for our Section. Some of these include piloting of innovative formats for engaging members, such as a virtual journal club, open forums, and live chat sessions. We are excited to think “outside the box” in terms of how our members interact and learn. We will continue to pursue optimal ways to reach clinical generalists and how to provide tools and networking to support them. These will ultimately be included in the updated SICP Strategic Plan later on this year. Additionally, the Section Advisory Groups (SAGs) and the ESC will continue their activities by developing resources and educational programs to enhance members’ abilities to provide optimal patient care.

VOTE!! Be sure to take the opportunity to vote for our Section’s leaders and for the ASHP Board of Directors, including the President. To vote online, you will need your Election Validation Number and your ASHP Member ID Number which can be found in the email ballot notification sent on June 26, 2017. Voting will close at 12:00 midnight on July 26, 2017.

Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to serve as Section Chair this year. Please feel free to contact me at any time with any thoughts, input, or questions at linda.spooner@mcphs.edu. I look forward to working with you all!

Sincerely,

Linda
