I’m very excited that spring is almost upon us. Spring represents new beginnings, fresh growth, and the promise of exciting, fun-filled days ahead! I hope you all have had a productive 2018 so far.
Looking ahead over the next few months, so much is going on within our Section. The survey for interest in Section Advisory Groups (SAGs) and the Educational Steering Committee (ESC) are currently open now through April 1st. Current SAG and ESC members must submit their names through this survey to be considered for reappointment. If you are not currently a member, I encourage you to become more involved in our Section by submitting your name for consideration for appointment to a SAG or ESC. This is a great way to provide service to the Section while contributing to the work these groups do to improve pharmacists’ abilities to provide optimal patient care. Twelve years ago, I submitted my name for consideration for appointment to the Section’s ESC. I wanted to become more involved in the Section, and I felt that the mission of the ESC matched my experiences in creating educational sessions and materials for practicing pharmacists in my institution and state. When I was appointed, I had the opportunity to design and review educational proposals for sessions at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting. I also identified areas for topic development for webinars, manuscripts, and online resources. I had the pleasure of working with so many wonderful Section members from all over the country, all of whom were excited about becoming more involved with ASHP. You may find that either the ESC or one of the SAGs represents an area of interest for you. Our four SAGs are also quite diverse, including Medication Safety, Small and Rural Hospitals, Advancing Pharmacy Practice with Technicians, and Pharmacy Practice Experiences. Each of these five groups provides stellar service to the Section and ASHP, and I hope you will consider submitting your name for consideration for appointment!
This month, the Executive Committee is continuing its work on updating the Section’s Strategic Plan to reflect ASHP’s recently updated plan. We are excited to incorporate updated goals within our plan that will help improve our service to pharmacists and technicians practicing on the front lines. We will continue to include topics that are of the utmost importance in 2018 and beyond, including clinician well-being and resilience, opioid crisis, and determination of where pharmacists and technicians fit into the continuum of safe and optimal care for our patients.
As always, please feel free to contact me at any time with any thoughts, input, or questions at firstname.lastname@example.org. I hope you have a wonderful spring!
