What an unprecedented time to be sending my first communication as the new Chair of the ASHP Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners (SICP). I sincerely hope each one of you and your loved ones are staying well. Although I greatly missed the energy and interactions of the ASHP Summer Meetings, I am glad we have ways to stay virtually connected until we can again meet in person.
I would like to catch you up on the work still happening behind the scenes with the Section. The SICP Executive Committee met virtually last month to work through the 2020-2021 SICP Strategic Plan in order to provide guidance for our four Section Advisory Groups (SAGs), Compounding Practice, Medication Safety, Pharmacy Practice Experiences Precepting, Small and Rural Hospitals, and the Educational Steering Committee (ESC). Each of the Section SAGs/ESC are comprised of Section members, like you, who volunteer their time and effort to develop practice tools and educational activities that are designed to make your day-to-day practice a bit easier.
Many of you are active members of ASHP Connect, and I encourage everyone to use these resources to learn from other ASHP members about practice across the country and around the world. The COVID-19 Connect Community has been active and especially helpful in quickly communicating with colleagues. SICP members also communicate through the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners, Investigational Drug Service (IDS) and IRB Practitioner, Medication Safety, and Small and Rural Hospitals Connect Communities. Check out ASHP Connect and feel free to join any community. You will receive a Daily Digest of discussion threads. Stay connected through ASHP Connect!
I have some special thanks for the members of our SICP leadership who have transitioned off the Executive Committee, Todd, Lemke, Susan Skledar and our Board Liaison, Nishaminy Kasbekar. Your contributions to the SICP Executive Committee will not be soon forgotten. I also look forward to continuing to serve with talented professionals including our Immediate Past Chair Doug Meyer, Directors-at-Large (DAL) Sarah Stephens and Alison King, and our new ASHP Board of Directors Liaison Leigh Briscoe-Dwyer. We will also welcome aboard this summer two new Executive Committee members to fill the vacancies for our Chair-Elect and DAL-Elect. Don’t forget to vote! Ballot notifications were sent to all eligible voting members by email on July 6, 2020. Please refer to your ballot or the 2020 ASHP Elections page for further information.
Finally, if you or your colleagues need continuing education (CE), please check out the ASHP Summer Meetings 2020 for free CE. Seventeen hours of continuing education credit is available until June 29, 2023. Also, a reminder that ASHP Best Practices Award applications are being accepted through August 17, 2020. This ASHP national award program recognizes outstanding practitioners in pharmacy who have successfully implemented innovative systems that improve the quality of patient care and demonstrate best practices in pharmacy.
I will close by saying, at a time of such uncertainty, please be certain of one thing, I am honored to serve as your Chair and welcome the chance to be of assistance. I thank each and every one of you for what you contribute to patients and our profession.
